I can’t believe it’s already the end of October! We are rapidly approaching the peak holiday shopping season. The biggest retailers have released their Hot Toys of 2018 lists. So far we have seen lists from Amazon, Target, and Walmart. Plenty of people are already wondering where to find Rainbocorns, Poopsie the glitter slime pooping unicorn and Step2 My First Snowman and we haven’t even hit November yet! In our Kids Steals & Deals Facebook Group we are actively tracking the newest holiday toys of 2018 and posting updates of the hottest holiday toys when we see them in stock. It’s seriously the BEST way to get your holiday shopping done. If you’re not already a member, join here!
At this point, we are getting a pretty good look at what the hardest to find toys will be in 2018. While we don’t necessarily know what THE hottest toy will be, the leaders are starting to jump out. I will tell you right now…
Right now, we are in kind of a sweet spot. Many of the toys that sold out in September upon release are back with a fresh round of stock. Don’t let this fool you, many of them will be impossible to find and some are even selling with ship dates well into November. When we see them stock online, we always post on our Facebook Page and in our Facebook Kids Steals & Deals Group. If you’re not a member, click here to join.
Before we get into what you are really here for, a quick reminder, that there is a HUGE reseller market for the hottest holiday toys. These resellers clear shelves in retail stores and significantly mark the toys up. Always be sure when you buy something from Amazon or Walmart that you are buying items that are sold and shipped by Amazon/Walmart to avoid paying inflated prices and/or getting a counterfeit product. We just started seeing Wrapples that look like they could be fake. If you remember the fake Fingerlings fiasco last year, many found out that their orders were either not coming or what they got was fake in mid-December when it was late to be looking for hot toys. If the Wrapples being sold by suspect 3rd party sellers are fake Wrapples, people will be scrambling again.
We believe that October is still way too early to be buying from toy resellers looking for a quick profit, but recent eBay transactions will show you that there are tons of people paying a premium for toys that are somewhat readily available for retail (particularly if you are a member of our group)!
What are the Hottest Holiday Toys of 2018
There are a number of toys that have already been tough to find. Lucky for you, some of them are actually available for sale right now! They won’t stick around for long! These are the toys that we are currently hunting down in our Kids Steals & Deals Facebook Group. All of the below toys are “buy now” if you find them in stock at retail either online or in stores.
Hardest to Find Hottest Holiday Toys of 2018
Rainbocorns are plush animals with a flip sequin stomach. They come in an egg and the sequins on the stomach flip up to reveal a “secret message”. There are 12 different Rainbocorns color/animal combinations. Impossible to find just last week. Within the past couple of days, both Amazon and Walmart have had big Rainbocorns pre-orders. In fact, Amazon currently has Rainbocorns in stock to order for delivery in early November here.
Amazon sells the Zuru Rainbocorns by color and animal (12 options total). Walmart sells Rainbocorns by animal (6 options total). If you order from Target, you could get any of them. Rainbocorns are $24.99 – $34.99 – be sure you are buying directly from Amazon and Walmart to avoid high prices.

Step2 My First Snowman, Step2 My First Gingerbread House. Step2 My First Christmas Tree (Amazon + Walmart Exclusives)
These are toys that we were relieved that we caught early. Last year, the Step 2 My First Christmas Tree was one of the most difficult toys to find. By November it was impossible. When the Step 2 My First Snowman and the Step2 My First Gingerbread House first popped up a couple weeks ago, we KNEW they were going to be very popular. In addition to the new Step2 Holiday Toys, both Amazon and Walmart offer retailer exclusives of the My First Christmas Tree. You can check out more info about all of the Step2 Holiday Toys in our post here. All of these Step2 toys sold out at release in September. They are now back in stock periodically.
Where to find Step 2 My First Snowman in stock
The Step2 My First Snowman is the most popular of the Step2 Holiday Toys at the moment. It features lights and plays 3 songs. The Step2 My First Snowman is currently in stock at Amazon here. It has not restocked at Walmart since September, so once the Amazon well runs dry, that is the next best bet over the next couple of weeks.
Where to find Step 2 My First Gingerbread House in stock
The Step2 My First Gingerbread House also features lights and plays 3 songs. The Step2 My First Gingerbread House is currently in stock at Amazon here.
Where to find Step2 My First Christmas Tree with lights and sound (Walmart Exclusive)
The Walmart Exclusive Step2 My First Christmas Tree is a darker green and features a light up star that plays 3 songs. It has been going in and out of stock for the past couple days, early morning is the best time to check.
Where to find Step2 My First Christmas Tree with Bonus Ornaments (Amazon Exclusive)
The Amazon Exclusive My First Christmas Tree includes extra ornaments to decorate the tree with. It does not have lights or sound. Similar to the Walmart exclusive, the Amazon tree has been going in and out of stock and is actually available now.
Where to find Step2 My First Christmas Tree
The original Step2 My First Christmas Tree has been in and out of stock pretty regularly. Once the retailer-specific versions sell out again, these will likely be quick to follow.
L.O.L Surprise #OOTD Outfit of the Day Advent Calendar
The L.O.L. Surprise #OOTD Outfit of the Day Advent Calendar is the most popular advent calendar this year. When they do, your best shot of getting notification is in our Facebook group here.
It’s important to note that the LOL Surprise #OOTD Outfit of the Day Advent Calendar retail price is $29.99. Resellers are currently selling for as much as $85. These are still available at retail online, so it is far too early to pay inflated prices. For more kids Advent Calendar options, check out our full post here.

The L.O.L Surprise Advent Calendar is currently in stock at Walmart and Target. It has sold out from Amazon and we do not know if it will be back.
Don’t Step In It Unicorn Edition
Don’t Step In It is one of the most popular games out there right now. Basically you have to move along the game board (on the floor) and step in the fewest “poop” piles to win. Make that poop unicorn poop and you have hit board game gold it appears. The retail price is $19.99 and it consistently sells out within 24 hours of a restock. This is an Amazon Exclusive, which means it will not be found in stores.

Poopsie Slime Surprise Unicorn
This one continues to baffle us, but it just goes to show you that unicorn + slime + poop = Hot Holiday Toy. Poopsie’s retail price is $49.99. Poopsie continues to be one of the hardest to find toys!

My Life as Jojo Siwa 18″ Poseable Doll
In September, a NEW My Life As Jojo Doll was offered in a pre-order that lasted about 6 hours. There is also a Clothing Set and Candy Shop Play Set is coming to Walmart for the holidays that have not yet been available online! The new My Life as Jojo Siwa 18″ Poseable Doll is back in stock at Walmart, but could sell out again at any time.

What are the Newest Holiday Toys of 2018?
We are continuing to see unexpected toys popping up as pre-orders. The most notable is a seemingly early release of L.O.L Surprise Series 5 as well as some pets, fizzy balls, a bounce house and more. These are all likely to be very popular for the holidays. (Everything LOL is)
What are the newest toys?
L.O.L Surprise Holiday Bling + L.O.L Surprise Series 5 Hair Goals
Leave it to L.O.L Surprise to send the Internet into a buying frenzy. If we were measuring simply by brand, L.O.L Surprise are hands down the hottest holiday toys. Within a couple days of one another, pre-orders opened for L.O.L Surprise Holiday Bling Balls and L.O.L Surprise Series 5 #HairGoals. Both sold out in hours! The L.O.L Series 5 #HairGoals, Fuzzy Pets, Fizzy Balls and more all sold out without even having any pictures and a description of “Top Secret”. I am pretty sure that only L.O.L Surprise has the power to do that at the moment. For those who haven’t seen sneaks, the L.O.L #Hairgoals have rooted hair! They look awesome! Also keep an eye out at Target for an exclusive glitter pony available in early November.

What are the Retailers Predicting as the Hottest Toys of 2018?
The three largest retailers have released their lists and you can check them out below along with my thoughts on each of their lists. We’re not sure any of the retailers hit the nail on the head, but no retailer wants to release a list of toys you can’t find. We have pulled together our own list of the Hottest Toys of 2018 here. Our list is constantly evolving. We add toys as they start to trend and will likely drop some as we get deeper into the holiday season. We have also been testing and comparing the toys in a series of live videos both on our Facebook Page and in our Facebook Kids Steals & Deals Group. You can check out the videos we have done so far here.
2018 Hottest Toys Lists by Retailer
Walmart’s list contains 40 items that were supposedly top rated by kid influencers (those are those YouTube channels your kids are obsessed with). They don’t really tell us what the other choices were, so it’s hard to know if they had a full field of toys to play with -OR- if they were offered toys that Walmart was betting big on. They have some toys that will for sure be super popular. They lack the toys that are currently very hard to find. From a marketing perspective, a list of toys that no one can actually find is kind of useless, so we see what they are doing here. Of the toys listed, we strongly agree that the Imaginext Jurassic World Jurassic Rex, the L.O.L Surprise Dollhouse, and the Paw Patrol Ultimate Fire Rescue will all be popular for the holidays. Of them, only the L.O.L Surprise Dollhouse is a “buy now”.
We strongly disagree that Fingerlings Big Hugs and Ryan’s Giant Mystery Eggs are must haves. Early feedback on the mystery egg is that it is full of cheap dollar store type prizes that are not worth the price tag. As far as Fingerlings Big Hugs, we’re just not buying the hype. The other toys on Walmart’s Hot Toy list for 2018 are just meh – sure some will be popular, but you’re not likely to be hunting them down come November. There will also be toy deals for Black Friday, so no need to rush just yet. You can check out the whole list here.
Target’s Bullseye Top Toy list is also a little meh… It does include most of the same toys as Walmart and adds in some Target Exclusives. Their list does include Hatchimals Hatchibabies, which do have the possibility of reaching rockstar status, but so far while popular, we haven’t seen demand that exceeds supply. Check out the whole list here.
Amazon’s Top 100 Toy List
Amazon’s list definitely includes some of the most popular toys and some toys we think make great holiday gifts. We love the littleBits Avengers Hero Inventor Set, the Kano Harry Potter Coding Kit & Magna-Tiles new Magna-Qubix for holiday gifts this year! At this point, we don’t think they will be hard to find sell outs, but we will be keeping a close watch. You can check out the full Amazon list here.
